Georg Neubauer presents EPISECC at the PSCE Conference in Athens

During the second day of PSCE Conference in Athens on 24 November 2016, under the focus “Lessons learned from the migration crisis, a practitioner’s perspective”, Mr. Georg Neubauer (Austrian Institute of Technology), as coordinator, presented the EU funded project EPISECC. He referred to the recent migration and refugee crisis. He added that it has created challenges for the Member States in particular due to the lack of information exchange. He commented that Austria had requested more operation information as well as information on the exact location of the refugee wave. In addition, the national administration needed information on the exact activity of the NGOs in the area.
One of EPISECC’s results is the development of a pan-European inventory of past critical events/disasters and their consequences focusing on the performance of processes, data exchange and organisational boundaries. The migration crisis is one of the examples studied. Austria and Germany have expressed the need for improved information exchange between stakeholders in order to tackle the migration challenge. They have further requested for an enhanced operational picture related to short-(days), middle-(weeks) and long term (weeks to months) evolution of refugee flow development.
